Sleeping aids come in many forms and you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good night sleep. There are certain sleeping agents that will help you get to sleep in no time and compared to sleeping pills, will never have any side effects.
Getting a Rhythm
Your body will always have a schedule. In terms of sleeping what you are building is your circadian rhythm wherein there is a point of the day or night that you really have to be asleep. For people who are able to can't handle sleeping in time of the day, creating a rhythm is highly recommended.
You can slowly introduce your sleeping aid to your body by giving yourself a schedule sticking with it no matter what. For example, go to bed at 8 in the evening. That's pretty radical considering the guy is only in his early 30s. But then, as the person goes to bed at 8'o clock everyday without missing a beat he somehow realizes that no matter what's on TV, he gets really sleepy and would fall asleep.
Calming Before the Storm
One of the reasons why a person is not able to think well and be productive is that he or she doesn't get enough sleep and feels stressed out about it. It could be also said the other way: men and women are not getting enough sleep because they always think about work and they can easily get stressed out.
Stress will always get the best out of you, including productivity. As simple as shutting your eye could not be even possible if you are not able to address your stress fast. Sleep will get your body well rested and ready for what will happen once he or she wakes up.
Emulating Night
We are not nocturnal animals wherein we have the luxury to be very active during the night and sleep during the day. But that shouldn't stop you from working at night. You just have to deal with the inconveniences if you really want to excel in a career.
Since we are not nocturnal animal you have to adopt and create a situation that will make your body think that its already nighttime. The room should never have any windows open since light will greatly affect your plan in recreating a room at night.
It is even important to follow your protocol or practices before you sleep. That will make your body think that its already nighttime. Also part of the reason that you can sleep in the morning is because the job prevents you from getting any sleep at work.
Exercise
If you really can't sleep, exercise. This will get your blood circulating which will also calm your body and mind. Simple stretching could even remove stress which prevents you from getting enough sleep or even productive. But you have to make sure that you exercise in moderation so that you don't get all sweaty before you go to bed. A regular stretching and a few push-ups should do the trick.
